When and where did Christmas Carols originate?

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009 and filed under Christmas carols |

It’s Christmas time again so let’s hear it .
When and where did Carol singing at Chrsitmas time begin

The custom of carolling began at least 4 hundred years ago in England.
Each English town had watchmen known as waits. They guarded the town and the clock-on each hour they sounded horns or played short tunes. Over time, some waits formed travelling bands and were called minstrels. At Christmas times they would go door to door, playing their instruments and singing, often for gifts or money.
The Silent Night carol was written in 1818, by an Austrian priest Joseph Mohr. On Christmas eve he learnt that the church organ was broken. He could not think of Christmas without music, so he wrote a carol that could be sung by the choir to guitar accompaniment. That night the people in the little Austrian Church sang "Stille Nacht" for the first time.

    the best answer I found.

The tradition of Christmas carols hails back as far as the thirteenth century, although carols were originally communal songs sung during celebrations like harvest tide as well as Christmas. It was only later that carols began to be sung in church, and to be specifically associated with Christmas

It was left behind by our creator together with the "Spoils of the war" from after world war two in planet of apes.
And living human kind had been carrying on that tradition in keeping the spirit alight until before independence in planet of apes.
After independence the men who would be king all kick the butts of our creator and it was lost with time with everyone living in misery in making a monkey out of themselves in planet of apes.
At loss with the spirits of X’mas cheers year in and year out in planet of apes.
Even at loss with the warning "Santa Claus is coming to town" in planet of apes.

Caroling started when a little girls was kidnapped in London, in 1888. Because there was a nervousness about the attacker people would go out in groups looking for her all through out London. They went door to door looking for the lost girl. People were hesitant to open the door to strangers because this little girls disappearance had everyone up in arms. So, in order to quell peoples fears, and seeing as it was around the holidays, the people out looking would sing Christmas songs to show that they meant no harm. The little girls name was Carol she was never found but the tradition continues on, being call Christmas Caroling. And that is where Christmas Caroling come from.

This may all just be a ruse seeing as Charles Dickens wrote "A Christmas Carol" in 1843. But I like this version better.
